Let Veneers Reshape Your Smile

Dental veneers brighten your smile and help hide imperfections that can make you feel self-conscious about your appearance. Dr. Tiberiu Oancea and Dr. Jeromy Thornton, your Houston, TX dentists at Today's Dental, explain how veneers can transform your smile.

What are veneers?Veneers

Veneers are thin porcelain shells that are attached to the fronts of your teeth. They're permanently bonded to your teeth and are used to change color, shape, length, and size. With you choose veneers, your teeth will be uniformly white with no discrepancies in size or shape.

How can veneers help me?

Veneers are the perfect option if you want whiter teeth than teeth whitening treatments can offer. They're also a good choice if you have any of the following cosmetic issues:

  • Uneven teeth
  • Crooked or oddly shaped teeth
  • Spaces between your teeth
  • Chipped, broken or eroded teeth
  • Discolored teeth, due to root canal treatment, large fillings or tetracycline stains

Will people be able to tell that I have veneers?

People will notice that your smile looks great, but won't notice anything unusual. Because veneers are created from impressions of your teeth, they fit each tooth perfectly and don't look artificial.

What happens during the veneer process?

Your dentist will remove a very thin layer of your enamel from your teeth to accommodate the thickness of the veneers. Some people report slight pain during this part of the process, although it's easily relieved with a local anesthetic. After your dentist shaves your teeth, he'll make an impression, which will be sent to the dental laboratory that will create your custom dental veneers.

You'll return to your dentist's office when the veneers arrive from the lab. He'll test the fit first, then permanently apply them to your teeth with dental cement, aided by a light that bonds the cement to the veneers. Approximately two weeks later, you'll return to the office to determine if any minor adjustments are needed.
